What is Qualcomn Quick Charge?

Imagine a charger that can not only detect charging current and delivers the maximum but also communicate with the charging device the temperature level and how much power the device is capable to take from the charger. That’s when Qualcomm’s quick charge technology comes into picture.

Quick Charge technology is a new technology but it’s being used by plenty of people these days.

What is Quick Charge?

Quick Charge can be defined as a technology introduced by Qualcomm, implemented on Snapdragon chipsets, which focuses on pushing in more power, so as to charge the device battery faster. It can be categorized into three types, namely- Quick Charge 1.0, Quick Charge 2.0 and Quick Charge 3.0 and the latest version Quick charge 4.0.

Quick Charge 1.0

Well, it all started with Qualcomm Quick Charge 1.0 and as you can expect, the devices that are compatible with Quick Charge 1.0 would now be considered old. Quick Charge 1.0 is able to draw 2.0A current of power from nearly any source that it’s connected to and this allows for faster charging with more power being supplied to a device. Version 1.0 was only capable of using 5 volt supply of power, though.

Quick Charge 1.0 today is basically what can be seen as “Normal Charging” today, back then pushing the 2.0A envelope was fast enough but times have changed.

Quick Charge 2.0

Then came Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 and this is where things got interesting. Many devices featured the Snapdragon processor that was compatible with Quick Charge 2.0, and this time the charging truly exceeded the expectations of the users. Voltage-wise Quick Charge 2.0 tech has options of 5v/ 9v/ 12v which meant more power and the max current of 3A which was a one up from the traditional Quick Charge.

Quick Charge 3.0

Quick Charge 3.0 is engineered to refuel devices up to four times faster than conventional charging. It is designed to charge twice as fast as Quick Charge 1.0 and to be 38 percent more efficient than Quick Charge 2.0. Now consumers can spend even less time charging, and can grab and go more quickly.

Quick Charge 3.0 employs Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage (INOV), an algorithm which allows your portable device to determine what power level to request at any point in time, enabling optimum power transfer while maximizing efficiency. It also supports wider voltage options, allowing a mobile device to dynamically adjust to the ideal voltage level supported by that specific device. Specifically, Quick Charge 3.0 offers a more granular range of voltages: 200mV increments, from 3.6V to 20V. That way your phone can target one of dozens of power levels.

Quick Charge 4.0

QC 4.0 also includes the latest iteration of Qualcomm's custom power management algorithm, Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage (INOV). Additions include real-time thermal management, which will regulate the temperature during power delivery to keep things safer and more efficient. New power management ICs are also part of the picture and will come with QC 4-ready devices.

So where can you find products that feature the awesome Qualcomm Quick Charge technology? Quick Charge tech is actually on many devices and you’ll be able to see it on plenty of devices nowadays. Usually, a company that does sell Quick Charge devices will specify if their product does have QC technology and the product itself will be indicated to have QC tech. Take a look at this Zendure A8 QC portable charger.

With the name of “the quick-charging monster”, the A8 QC is one of the fastest charging external batteries on the market for its capacity, thanks to the certified Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 Technology. With 26,800 mAh capacity, this monster can easily extend your phone usage 7-9 times, and takes only 10-12 hours to charge using a QC3.0 charger.

The dedicated QC 3.0 Port can output 5-6V/3.0A,6-9V/2.0A,9-12V/1.5A (18W Max) when connected to a compatible QC3.0 device. The other three ports with ZEN+ Technology automatically detect your device and fine tune the output to charge it at maximum speed (up to 5V/3.1A). Enjoy top charging speed with a "Zen" peace of mind.
